  Is your government respecting its human rights obligations in confronting the economic crisis?

It has been more than two years now since the start of the largest financial meltdown and global economic recession in over fifty years. And yet, how have our governments responded to this crisis in such a way as to uphold peoples' fundamental dignity and human rights?

ESCR-Net-together with the Center of Concern, the Center for Economic and Social Rights and the Center for Women's Global Leadership-would like to encourage you now to participate in a Questionnaire on your government's response to the economic crisis.

Your answers will help us understand how governments' actions worldwide have lived up to, or let down, their human rights obligations, and to help determine what policy responses are needed at the national and global levels to confront this enduring crisis and prevent another collapse. Your responses will be then be integrated into a collective report analyzing government responses to the crisis from a human rights perspective, serving as the foundation upon which to provide views and recommendations during a high-level panel discussion on the topic at the UN Human Rights Council. Your responses and this process will at the same time provide important building blocks to thinking through a collective strategy for advocating for a human rights response to the global economic crisis.

¿Está su gobierno cumpliendo con sus obligaciones de derechos humanos en su respuesta a la crisis económica?

Ya hace más de dos años que se inició la mayor crisis financiera y recesión económica global en más de cincuenta años. Vale la pena preguntarse cómo han respondido nuestros gobiernos a esta crisis de manera de defender la dignidad fundamental y nuestros derechos humanos.

La Red-DESC, junto con Center of Concern, Center for Economic and Social Rights y Center for Women's Global Leadership, desean invitarles a participar de un Cuestionario sobre la respuesta de su gobierno a la crisis económica.

Sus respuestas nos ayudarán a comprender cómo han cumplido (o no) los gobiernos con sus obligaciones relacionadas con los derechos humanos, y a determinar qué políticas son necesarias en el ámbito nacional y global para enfrentar esta persistente crisis y prevenir otro colapso financiero. Las respuestas se compilarán en un informe colectivo que analizará la respuesta de los gobiernos a la crisis desde el punto de vista de los derechos humanos y servirá como fundamento para aportar ideas y recomendaciones durante un panel de debate de alto nivel que tendrá lugar durante el 13º período de sesiones del Consejo de Derechos Humanos de marzo de 2010. Sus respuestas y este proceso, al mismo tiempo, constituyen bloques importantes para concebir una estrategia colectiva destinada a promover una respuesta basada en los derechos humanos para la crisis económica global.
